Community Education Centers (CEC) is a leading provider of residential and outpatient community corrections programs.  Working in over 90 locations across the U.S., we provide a foundation of support to change addictive and criminal behaviors and effectively prepare our residents for community reintegration.  With programming that encompass assessment, drug and alcohol education, and education services for juvenile and adult populations. We are redefining effective means to reduce recidivism.

We are currently seeking a Lead Counselor at our facility in Kearny, NJ.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

·      Conducts staff training

·      Monitor resident intake process and resident work crews

·      Collects data from other counselors and assists in completing operations reports, may email the resident headcount to the DOC upon request of the Shift Supervisor, responsible for the headcount during shifts when reporting to Supervisor of Operations

·      Assists Counselors in reporting resident accidents or injuries

·      Conducts or assists in conducting daily facility inspections and searches of resident sleeping quarters and body searches as necessary

·      Serves as liaison between the Counselors and the Supervisor in conducting crisis intervention

·      Collects urine samples for random and routine substance abuse screenings of residents and assists in monitoring urine testing

·      Ensures that Counselors are posted at assigned security areas to maintain safe and secure orderly environment for residents, staff and visitors during the daily scheduled activities

·      Interviews candidates for open Counselor positions

·      May transport residents to out-of-facility appointments

·      Assists in enforcing the facility rules of conduct with the residents, may inspect and distribute resident mail


·         High School Diploma or GED equivalent

·         One year experience in substance abuse treatment or correctional environment preferred

·         Valid driver’s license

Microsoft Office and leadership abilities, preferred.
